Big Island prosecutors have charged one of two men arrested following a violent robbery this week in Kailua-Kona. Big Island police say 28-year-old Randall Todd Chase has been charged with first-degree robbery, assault, third-degree theft, and promoting a dangerous drug, among other offenses. The other 43-year-old suspect was released to the custody of the Department of Public Safety on a probation violation charge. Officers responded to a report of a robbery outside a restaurant on Henry Street. They determined that an acquaintance approached two men and used an object to strike one of them in the head, arms and legs. He then allegedly fled with both their backpacks in a black sedan being driven by another man. The victim was rushed to a hospital with serious head injuries and now remains in stable condition.
