Governor Neil Abercrombie believes Hawaii’s health exchange is "fundamentally flawed." Tuesday, he told "Hawaii News Now" that the execution of the state’s Health Connector was flawed by a Legislature decision to set up a nonprofit. The governor says the exchange does not have the same capacity as the state government to determine Medicaid eligibility and follow through with it. He plans to push for a waiver that would give the departments of Health and Human Services broader range to assist residents with insurance.
