Police believe a 51-year-old convicted car thief shot and killed by police in Pacific Palisades in August was the same man involved in an officer-involved shooting at Red Hill in July. Police shot and killed James Pickard Jr. on August 6 in Pacific Palisades while Pickard was driving a stolen car on Komo Mai Drive. Authorities said Pickard drove into a police car then reversed towards two other officers, while trying to flee. Pickard is also suspected of trying to run over a police sergeant with a stolen car in the Red Hill area on July 24. The officer fired a shot before jumping out of the way. The stolen vehicle was recovered, but the suspect was not caught.
