A woman who was in a coma after a violent purse-snatching in Waikiki, died last night at Straub Clinic & Hospital. The family of 52-year-old Julie Stephenson announced her death this morning in a blog. Stephenson was returning home from work, when she was robbed just before 9:30 p.m. February 2 in front of the Tradewinds apartment building on Ala Moana Boulevard. A man shoved her to the ground and grabbed her purse. The 1979 Kaiser graduate broke her hip in the fall and started bleeding internally. Doctors placed her into a medically induced coma to protect her organs. No one has been arrested in connection with the attack. Police said the case may be reclassified as a homicide depending on the outcome of an autopsy.
