Maui police say speed was a factor in a fatal motorcycle accident in Kihei Wednesday night. 24-year-old Burton Salas of Wailuku crashed his motorcycle after failing to negotiate a curve in the roadway on North Kihei Road just before 10 p.m. The motorcycle crossed left of the center and collided with a guardrail. Salas died at the scene, near the Kealia Wildlife Reserve. He was wearing a helmet. Police are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were also have contributed to Maui's 6th traffic fatality on the island, compared to four at the same time last year.
