You Can Hear a New Ezra Koenig Song in the 'Neo Yokio' Christmas Special

While we all wait with bated breath for the new Vampire Weekend album to drop next year, frontman Ezra Koenig is whetting fans' appetites a bit with a freshly penned song for his Neo Yokio project. The animated series, which stars Jaden Smith, debuted last year on Netflix to much praise. Though the second season has been commissioned, there haven't been any details about when we can expect it to air.

However, on Friday morning (December 7), the streaming service dropped an hourlong holiday special titled "Pink Christmas" that features Koenig's new tune. As Spin reports, the song is called "Friend Like You" and was written by Koenig, Bloodpop, and iLoveMakonnen. The simplistic song is anchored by guitars, drums, and electric piano, while Koenig sings “I never had a friend like you, I don’t think I’ll ever find another” in a nursery rhyme-like melody.

“Friend Like You” is featured around the 32 minute mark of the special, and again during the closing credits. Both times are just snippets of the track, but it's exciting to hear something new from Koenig, considering our last taste of Vampire Weekend came in 2013's Modern Vampires of the City

It's also fitting that the frontman's writing delicate tunes like this, considering he recently became a father.
