Good Samaritan Has Car Towed After Stopping To Help Crash Victim

A Maryland man was driving along Suitland Parkway in Southeast Washington D.C. when the car in front of him spiraled out of control and crashed into a ravine. Benjamin Davis III knew he had to help so he pulled over and ran to the car.

“I rushed down, and out of the passenger window, there was an individual hanging out halfway, and his friend was like crushed down on top of his body – the hood of the car was crushed down,” Davis told Fox 5 DC. “I pulled him out on to the ground. The other guy, he appeared already dead to me. He was trapped in by the roof and everything.”

Davis waited until police arrived and told them everything he saw. He was cleared to leave the scene but after he did, he was pulled over by another D.C. police officer who told him that he was being detained because he was a witness of the fatal accident.

Davis tried to explain to the officer that he had already spoken to the officers at the scene, but he was still detained and questioned for nearly two hours over his involvement in the car accident. After his interrogation, he was released but found out that his car was going to be impounded.

"I got treated like a suspect and my car was stolen by police in D.C., and I don't know where my vehicle is," Davis said.

He said that he has been in touch with the mother of the man he pulled out of the car, who is fighting for his life in the hospital.

"I’m just upset that someone lost their life. They had no respect for human life. Someone died there. I don’t know what was going on with those people or what. But somebody died there and they treated everyone like suspects and it was just horrible.”
