Brandon Boyd Wasn't Aspiring To Be A Rockstar When He Started Incubus

Brandon Boyd was a shy teenager when he formed Incubus with Mike Einziger and José Pasillas in 1991. When the band signed a 7-record deal with Sony five years later, the frontman was 20 but the importance of what he had done was still something he couldn't full comprehend.

“I honestly don’t think that I completely understood the scale of that," he admitted during a recent interview with Kerrang!. I would argue that most young artists don’t understand it when they sign a huge record deal like that, because it’s so abstracted. I just knew I was happy to have the opportunity to travel and to make art in a way that – up until a few years before that – I wasn’t really anticipating. I personally did not have huge aspirations for rock stardom.”

Regardless of his goals when starting the band, Incubus became one of the biggest acts of the '90s and is currently touring to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its seminal third album Make Yourself. But they're not just living in the past—Boyd and company are also working on new music. Check out Incubus' full list of tour dates below.
