Bastille's Dan Smith Debuts Blonde Hair And Twitter Has Thoughts

On Tuesday (February 18), Bastille hit up the BRIT Awards red carpet in London, England (it's like a smaller version of the GRAMMYs but in the UK).

Lead singer Dan Smith surprised everyone when he showed up with a completely new look by dying his usual brown hair platinum blonde. Granted, Smith is still rocking a buzz cut after shaving his notorious quiff for the band's “Quarter Past Midnight” video but the change is still a big one.

Once photos of the band starting hitting the Twitterverse, fans wasted no time tweeting their thoughts on his new look — and let's just say everyone is torn. While some people absolutely love the new look (raises hand!), some fans couldn't help but to wonder what he was thinking — especially since he's commented on being more anonymous with a shaved head.

In a previous interview, Smith talked about starting a new era with the band's newest album and how that coincided with shaving his head, Doom Days, saying, “Looking back to artists that I love like Bowie, the Beatles and Kate Bush they would have defined eras of their careers. We wanted to make this a distinct era for us.”

It seems safe to say the blonde hair is either an extension of the Doom Days era, or Smith is already looking ahead to the next Bastille album.

Bastille is up for Best Group at the BRITs against Bring Me the Horizon, Coldplay, D-Block Europe, and Foals.

Bastille recently released a handful of videos featuring a live symphony that reimagine songs off Doom Days.
