Guitar Kirk Hammett Played In Metallica's 'One' Music Video Up For Auction

The guitar used by Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett in the music video for "One" is now up for grabs at auction.

Dallas collectibles dealer Heritage Auctions is taking bids on the historic ESP 400 Series guitar until Sunday afternoon, April 11.

As of this writing, the current bid is $38,000 after three days on the block.

The Stratocaster-style guitar is in a natural wood finish with black hardware, a white pickguard, three single-coil pickups and a Floyd Rose tremolo system.

Most importantly, the guitar is signed in silver ink by Hammett himself and it includes a certificate of authenticity and its original hardshell case.

"One" holds a special place in Metallica history. Despite releasing three albums previous to ...And Justice For All, in 1989 "One" was among the first music videos the band ever made.

The five-minute single edit for the video quickly made it into daytime rotation on MTV and began Metallica's ascent to the mainstream.

The song has remained one of the band's most popular, with fans last summer voting it the second greatest Metallica track of all-time, behind 1986's "Master of Puppets."

Late-Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell famously combined the lyrics for Metallica's "One" with the music from U2's "One" as a mainstay in his solo acoustic show.
