Hurricane Erick Strengthens Overnight; Flossie Continues On Path

Hurricane Erick intensified to a Category 2 hurricane overnight, with sustained winds of 115mph as of 5AM Hawaii time. Erick continues on a westward path that is forecast to pass just south of the Big Island and the other Hawaiian Islands this weekend. Erick is also expected to weaken into a tropical storm as it passes Hawaii.

Tropical Storm Flossie is on the verge of becoming a hurricane. As of 5AM Hawaii time, Flossie has maximum sustained winds of 70mph as it moves westward on a more northerly track than Erick. Flossie is forecast to be within the vicinity of Hawaii by Monday; however it's still too far away from Hawaii to predict whether any of the islands will be affected by Flossie.

Next update from the National Hurricane Center is expected by 11AM Tuesday.
